Charles Codrington Pressick Hobkirk was a local bank manager, naturalist, scholar and author of Huddersfield: Its History and Natural History ().. Biography. He was born in Huddersfield in , the son of David Thomas Hobkirk () and his wife Elizabeth (c) née Booth. He was named after his paternal uncle and grandfather, who were both named Charles . Having laboured for nearly five years on human evolution, sexual selection, and the expression of emotions, Darwin was able to devote almost exclusively to his beloved plants.
